My Friends Hold A Fun Benefit For Me, Here In Eugene!
This fundraising event for me went very well and we want to thank everybody who helped: The bands, poster-makers, donors, participants, and too many to mention here. Friendship gave me such a vision of joy that clearly this gift of community won that day!

Below, my friends have sent out this announcement about a benefit with two great bands, on Thursday, June 26, 2014. Please spread the word and if possible join me for the festivities! You may want to arrive early because the event is only two hours long.
By the way, there are musicians in both bands who have had decades at the Oregon Country Fair. Hopefully, both will play songs they have written with an OCF theme!

The Friends of David Oaks Fundraising Committee invite you to enjoy a very special evening of entertainment at Cozmic featuring STEEL WOOL and THE REFRESHMENTS on June 26, 2014 from 6 to 8 pm.
STEEL WOOL is a harmony-driven, danceable, all-original folk-rock project incorporating elements of funk, classic rock, and traditional Zimbabwean music. Featuring Tim Mueller as songwriter, lead vocalist and guitar player; TR Kelley on bass and vocals, Nel Applegate on mbira, djembe, percussion and vocals, and Randy Hamme on drums, this Eugene, Oregon band moves the heart and soul with stories of truth and joy and love and loss, and catches fire with three part harmonies, the haunting mbira, inventive bass lines, danceable grooves and world beat percussion.
THE REFRESHMENTS are a quartet of Eugene women who perform renditions of 50’s and 60’s pop classics on ukuleles, percussion and bass that gets people on their feet and singing along. Long time Eugenians Denise Hinz, Leslie Hunter, Yayoe Kuramitsu and Patty Sage formed their group in 2009 performing at venues around Oregon and guarantee to liven up the evening with finger snapping, toe-tapping and foot-stomping tunes
The sliding scale admission of $5 to $50 to the benefit goes into the David W. Oaks Trust Fund and will help pay for a new concrete walkway in David and Debra’s backyard. See it come to be in “Debra’s Dream,” the new 90 second video at https://vimeo.com/95770464
David Oaks is the human rights activist who is paralyzed after suffering a spinal cord injury from a fall a year and a half ago and needs to be able to get his wheelchair out of the house and into his garden for his health and safety.
